Lifestyle = Helmet Hair?

May 17, 2010

Oh…I don’t think so! I didn’t start riding Harleys back in the 90′s so I could look funky every time I pulled up, dropped my kickstand and sauntered into some roadside ”establishment”….you know, for a little refreshment. Especially not with my oh-so-hunky honey!

I didn’t even own a pair a jeans before I met him, so there were many changes that needed to be made.

Fire Monkey…..hair goddess….some actually attributed those names to my own flowing, bouncy, mane of bright red hair. All achieved, then enhanced by perms and hair extensions! Yeah, before I was introduced to helmets, I loved my long, curly, all over the place, hot-mess tresses. I’d wear them up…down…and everywhere in between.

Then I met Marty (sigh). It was love at first sight…..not only with Marty….but Marty’s Harley.

What I didn’t love was how I looked once that helmet came off. Him…he always looked hot. Yeah….. Marty had long….STRAIGHT….blond hair. Hmmmm. My hair was all layered, curly and voluminous …well, at least before the ride. During our little outings….at every pit-stop….. it just looked sad, crinkled, and molded down around my head! Yikes…no amount of fluffing could undo the dreaded HELMET HAIR!

So, I figured, what was good for him….was good for me. I started growing out my layered, chemically induced curls and added European hair (w/a little body) instead. Sans the perm, I could even do some bleach highlights without trashing it.  I also learned how to do a perfect French braid on myself. I couldn’t believe all the compliments I got on my hair!

When I’d unlatch that skull bucket and toss it into my saddlebag, all I had to touch up was my lip gloss…well, and fluff out my bangs a little. That simple long braid, hanging down the back of my leather jacket was the envy of all my girlfriends back then…..especially the ones who were also ”motorcycle enthusiasts”.

So, yes….. I got the guy (celebrating our 10 year Wedding Anniversary soon)…..been there, done that with the bikes…..and have had fun changing up my style as our lives have progressed.

But I’ll never forget….that long, waist-length, gold and red braid served me well for many years…..and miles and miles of fun!
